The interlock was pretty easy to install. Just drill three holes.
I had to file them slightly to get it to fit and slide.

Neat. Lock-Out-Tag-Out for your home!

I’ve read through your posts about this, and I can’t quite figure out what is the point of this? When you ran the generator, didn’t you just have stuff plugged in to the generator?

The idea is that the generator is connected to the main feed for the house, so you don’t have to run extension cords all over the place. Obviously you can’t risk having the generator feed power back into the power grid, or you could kill a line worker doing repairs. The lockout makes it impossible to have the house connected to the grid and to the generator at the same time.

Yes. He’s just doing the most.

So I plug one cord in outside and it runs power into the panel through this breaker. So I just fire up the generator, plug one thing in and throw 2 breakers and my house
has generator power instead of mains

Lol I haven't logged in for a long time. The boy lost interest so it's been moth balled. There isn't anything within miles of our house. Maybe we'll break it out and do some driving and Pokemon go

Aha I see what that is now.
Nice job

I get that. I’ve slowed down a bit, but no work from home for me, so I play in the way to and from work via my car.

Thanks. I only knew about the transfer switches before. But they don’t have models that you can actually put a lock on, correct?
Everyone in your house w
ould know not to mess with it and you would’ve instructed them on this.
Just thinking
worst case.

Well done! Glad you took the panel trim off to mount the lockout. I mean let’s face it, I’m sure at least one person has tried doing it on the panel. Haha

Never seen that interlock thing on a panel before. Looks pretty straightforward . Neat !

The easiest and cheapest option I found.

Haha probably the instructions do say to pull it off so they probably anticipated it happening.

I didn’t find any you could put a lock on but the kit keeps both breakers from being on at the same time so you can’t feed mains power and generator power in at the same time or feed generator power out into the lines.

oh! My first reaction was you were being overly pedantic with your response. But I actually needed that - that it would keep the gen breaker off if you turned on the mains didn’t occur to me. I only saw that you can turn on the gen if you turn off the mains. You don’t need a lock.
Clever. Other than the rather large cost for two pieces of stamped metal. Which others discussed.

Yeah you’re clearly not paying for the metal as much as the testing and certification of the final product. Glad I could clear it up for you.
